Gluten in Beer

If you are avoiding gluten, you need to find an alternative beer.
Gluten can be hard to spot, especially if you are only avoiding gluten occasionally - you just may not be looking out for it when cheersing a beer with mates.
According to the Medical Journal of Australia, 25% of Aussies (about 6 Million people) avoid gluten at certain times in their diet due to either a medical diagnosis or because they just feel better without it.

Bread, pasta.... and BEER
Ask any Aussie which foods contain gluten they will easily pick at least a few, like bread and pasta, but many people don’t even consider that the crispy, cold, refreshing beer in the fridge is almost always made from grains like barley, wheat, rye and oats - all sources of gluten.
There are no allergen labelling requirements for gluten or wheat in beer so it is hidden there in plain sight.
How about gluten reduced beer?
Just like bread or pasta, once you put gluten in, there is no way to remove it. Research from Edith Cowan University in WA has shown the “gluten reduced” beers in the market often contain just as much gluten as regular beers, and because they are not produced in dedicated gluten free environments or with a gluten free supply chain, they almost always have wheat cross contamination.
If gluten or wheat sensitivity is the cause of your bloating, you probably need to pick a 100% gluten free alternative.
You CAN still have a great beer without gluten!
Alternative gluten free grains have been used for brewing beer for millennia. Right back to ancient Egypt, they were brewing beers with millet. There is now a wide range of modern and traditional beer styles brewed with alternative gluten free grains.
