Beer Crawls For All is our series of craft beer crawls where everyone gets a beer, including gluten free drinkers. Every stop pours or sells TWØBAYS gluten free beer, so nobody is stuck on soft drinks while their mates enjoy a cold one by the beach.
This time we're heading to Bondi. This gluten free beer crawl starts with barefoot bowls at the Bondi Bowling Club in North Bondi and stops for food at Grill'd or Chouchou. From there it heads to 44 North, then follows the beach south for dinner with a view at Icebergs. It's only about 1.7 km of mostly flat walking.

Getting there and home by public transport
Getting to the start (North Bondi)
- From the city by bus: Route 333 runs from Circular Quay via Elizabeth Street, Oxford Street, Bondi Junction and Bondi Road to North Bondi, a short walk from the Bowling Club. It's Sydney's busiest bus route and runs 24 hours.
- Train and bus: Catch a T4 Eastern Suburbs line train to Bondi Junction, then take the 333 from the Bondi Junction interchange to North Bondi.
Getting home from the finish (Icebergs)
- Walk a few minutes up Notts Avenue to Campbell Parade and catch the 333 back to Bondi Junction station or all the way into the city. Because it runs 24 hours, there's no need to rush dessert.
Services change often, so check transportnsw.info or the Opal Travel app on the day.
Where to eat gluten free on the crawl
This crawl has two food stops. The first is Stop 2, where you can choose Grill'd or Chouchou, a few minutes' walk from the Bowling Club.
- Grill'd Bondi Beach is a casual burger bar that offers gluten free buns. It's open all day, so it's the easy choice for a mid-afternoon feed. Top tip - you can grab a TWØBAYS at any Grill'd restaurant in Australia.
- Chouchou is a cosy French bistro that opens from 4pm. It's the pick if you'd rather sit down for a Parisian-style bite.
The second is dinner at Icebergs, where the crawl finishes. Tell staff you're coeliac at every stop.
The stops
Stop 1: Bondi Bowling Club
1A Warners Ave, North Bondi · Closed Mondays, opens 3pm Tue–Fri, from 11am Sat–Sun
Start the day at the North Bondi bowlo with a TWØBAYS and a round of barefoot bowls. It's a proper old-school club with bowling greens, darts, pool tables and an open fire on cooler nights. Book a green ahead on weekends.
Stop 2: Grill'd Bondi Beach or Chouchou (food stop)
Walk: ~600 m / ~8 min from the Bowling Club
Grill'd Bondi Beach
89–93 Hall St, Bondi Beach · Open daily from 10:30am
Grill'd is a relaxed, reliable burger stop with gluten free buns. Order a TWØBAYS and a gluten free burger, and let staff know you're coeliac so they can talk you through the sides.
Chouchou
13 O'Brien St, Bondi Beach · From 4pm, check days before you go
Chouchou is a small, charming Parisian-style bistro and bar with a warm, friendly team. Order a TWØBAYS and tell your server you're coeliac so they can guide you through the menu.
Stop 3: 44 North
15 O'Brien St, Bondi Beach · Walk: ~50 m / ~1 min, just a few doors along
44 North is a friendly neighbourhood café and bar just back from Campbell Parade. It's a locals' favourite with a big community feel and plenty of dogs. Settle in for a TWØBAYS before the walk along the beach.
Stop 4: Icebergs Dining Room and Bar
1 Notts Ave, Bondi Beach · Walk: ~1 km / ~15 min, south along the beach
This is the finish line, and there's no better one in Bondi. Stroll the length of the beach to Icebergs, perched above the famous ocean pool with a view straight back up the sand you've just walked. Order a TWØBAYS at the bar before dinner.
After the crawl: dinner at Icebergs
Icebergs is a hatted Italian restaurant, so this is the big finish. Book ahead and mention you're coeliac when you book. Diners say the team treats gluten free requests with real care, and some find them more cautious than they expected. Let your server guide you through the gluten free options on the night.
- Dining hours: All-day dining from 12pm Mon–Thu and Sun. On Fri–Sat, lunch is from 12pm and dinner from 6:30pm.
- Bookings: Recommended, especially for window tables at sunset
Tips for a gluten free beer crawl
- Always ask for TWØBAYS by name. Most craft beers are brewed with barley or wheat. "Gluten reduced" isn't the same as gluten free. TWØBAYS is brewed without any gluten-containing grains.
- Tell every kitchen you're coeliac. None of these venues has a dedicated gluten free kitchen.
- Pace yourself. Drink water between venues and eat at Stop 2 and again at Icebergs.
- Slip, slop, slap. Much of this walk is in the sun, so bring a hat and sunscreen.
- Leave the car at home. Parking in Bondi is notoriously hard to find, and the 333 bus runs 24 hours.
