Meet TWØBAYS Founding Head Brewer AG

ANDREW ‘AG’ GOW JOINS TWØBAYS AS CHIEF BEER CREATOR (HEAD BREWER)

MOVING TO THE GLUTEN FREE SIDE

When Andrew Gow landed a job as Mountain Goat’s first employee nearly 20 years ago, there were no more than ten craft breweries across Australia. Some of those were brew pubs and only a few actually packaged beer. ‘AG’ was among a handful of pioneers.

Not that they saw it like that; they were too busy brewing. There was no rulebook, no mentors, very little science and the internet barely existed.

Trial and error was king, and you had to figure things out yourself.

Now AG is tackling a new frontier – the Australian gluten free beer market - and almost two decades on, he is determined to build upon his reputation in the industry.

“For me, it is about quality and consistency,” explained AG, who was head brewer at Mornington Peninsula Brewery from its inception in 2010 to the end of 2017."

“If we can put out a beer that people enjoy on a regular basis, then we are winning. It is as simple as that."

“I was recently in America with a group of beer drinkers who were heading out to a brewery. I am not sure whether or not they knew it was a dedicated gluten free brewery, or they didn’t think it was worth mentioning. Either way, there was no discrimination or differentiation. They just went there to drink good beer."

“That is the goal for me – that people come to us for good beer – not just because it’s gluten free."

“We want people to experience a high-quality gluten free product and make some noise on the back of good beer.”
