Why enter GABS Hottest 100 Aussie Craft Beers Countdown?

In line with Triple J’s Hottest 100 countdown and Australian federal elections, GABS Hottest 100 Aussie Craft Beers is not about the best beer out there, it’s about the brewery that has the most engaged customers – in short; a popularity contest.

But what can’t be argued against, is that this is another masterstroke from the team behind the Great Australian Beer Spectapular (GABS Festivals), in supporting independent Aussie craft beer – and that is worth voting for.

And it’s great to see such big players supporting the countdown, with First Choice Liquor Market, Dan Murphy's, Vintage Cellars, Liquorland, BWS, Big Commerce and Klaviyo partnering with GABS.

Whatever you vote, it’s a vote for awareness, education and trial of craft beer, supporting great businesses and employers, and hundreds of thousands of livelihoods around Australia.

Gluten Free Beer Pale Ale XPA IPA

Voting for TWØBAYS is a vote for a wider range of more gluten free beer in more of your favourite bars, restaurants and bottle shops. And that’s why we enter.

Any activity that enables us to help our 2000+ stockists around the country – and to help our supporters in accessing great gluten free beer (without significantly compromising production and distribution budgets) is well worth the legwork. And thanks to awesome setups like GABS and the Independent Brewers Association (IBA), we have sustainable platforms from which to spread the message that the gluten free community deserves a choice of great beers, just like everyone else.

Even if it is a popularity contest, it’s always brilliant for us to pitch ourselves against Australia’s ‘barley’ breweries – we might avoid gluten, but we’re still human (and very competitive) – and although we’re yet to crack the top 100, we’re getting closer!

It also gives us great insight into consumer trends so that we can add that into the mix when considering which beers to brew and release next.

Lastly, it’s a lot of fun. And sometimes, you’ve just got to have fun! Especially when you have a beer for every occasion, despite avoiding gluten!

The Best Aussie Craft Beer Countdown

Running since 2008, the GABS Hottest 100 Craft Beer people’s choice poll is now considered one of the biggest polls of its type in the world.

Voting closes at 11:59 AEDT on Friday 20th January, with the countdown announced on the afternoon of Saturday 21st January. There will be countdown parties held around the country, so keep an eye out for venues running events that stock our beer – and if they don’t stock our beer, you know what to do... ask! Ask them and us!

How to vote for the best gluten free beer in Australia!

If your favourite beer happens to be one of the 8 beers we've registered, check out these hot tips on how to vote:

  1. After registering, type 'two bays' in the Brewery search bar – capitals don't matter, but the GABS machine doesn't like our name as one word – or any slashed Øs!
  2. Persevere. If your second, third, fourth and fifth favourite Aussie craft beers happen to be ours as well, you'll have to go through the search process outlined in Tip #1 again!
  3. Once you've submitted your five beers, give yourself a pat on the back and reach for a cold one – if appropriate! You've just supported independent beer (again) as we travel this odyssey together, pushing boundaries for a wider and better range of great gluten free beer, available to everyone.

Not sure which beer to vote for? Remind yourself of the TWØBAYS core and seasonal range (and GFB Draught) below... Cheers!

Pale Ale: With subtle citrus aromas and light hop flavours, this gold medal-winning gluten free Pale Ale cuts clean and gentle floral notes thanks to citra, cascade and magnum hops on a pale millet base.

XPA: A bright and punchy beer, this gluten free XPA (Extra Pale Ale) presents a slightly dialled up simcoe and ekuanot hop profile with citrus aromas, a crisp palette and a flavoursome finish with mild bitterness.

IPA: Malt sweetness is well balanced with nicely present bitterness in this gluten free IPA (India Pale Ale), thanks to galaxy, amarillo and mosaic hops that provide passionfruit aromas and bright citrus notes.

Session Ale: A beautifully sessionable gluten free mid-strength pale ale combining the best of southern and northern hemisphere hops, featuring mango, stone fruit and berry aromas, with a smooth, crisp palate.

Lager: A pale, clean gluten free lager, brewed as an easy-drinking version of a German Pilsner, featuring a smooth, crisp palate, hints of delicate grains and a beautifully sharp, refreshing finish.

GFB Draught: Paying homage to the classic Aussie beer taste, GFB Draught gluten free beer is a clean, crisp and refreshing, easy drinking beer.

Pulp Fusion Passionfruit Sour Beer: Pulp Fusion features powerful passionfruit aroma, backed up by refreshing tropical flavours and a subtly tart finish. Brewed at a lower 3.5% abv, this is the perfect summer thirst quencher.

No Doubt Stout: Chocolate and almond aromas lead in to coffee and caramel flavours and a smooth finish.
