    2.5 million Aussies avoid gluten – why TWØBAYS is the best gluten free beer

    The first thing you get told when you’re diagnosed with a gluten intolerance such as Coeliac Disease is ‘you can’t eat bread or beer’.

    At least that’s what the doctor said to TWØBAYS Brewing Co owner Richard Jeffares in 2015.

    “My life is over,” Richard told his wife.

    Then he started researching gluten free beer, barley free beer and wheat free beer. His research took him on a road trip around America to visit numerous gluten free breweries and gluten free beer taproom facilities.

    America and Canada are way ahead in the gluten free beer game, and TWØBAYS now has exclusivity over the import of gluten free malts into Australia and New Zealand, as nobody is commercially malting grains here.

  • Crafting Delicious Gluten Free Beer on the Mornington Peninsula

    Head brewer Kristian Martin jumped on the brew deck at Dromana-based TWØBAYS this week after six years at Mornington Peninsula Brewery.

    He started out in the beer world setting up the bar at the famous Carwyn Cellars in Thornbury, Victoria, while tutoring criminology at Deakin University.

    “The most exciting thing about all-grain gluten free beer is that there is so much room for innovation and development,” said Kristian, who is based in Somerville on the Peninsula’s Western Port Bay.

    Happy International Coeliac Day!

    As we start to emerge from COVID-19, I've been reflecting on isolation and that feeling of social alienation. It's how I used to feel before I opened TWØBAYS and we started making a range of gluten free craft beer. So even though I can only share a beer with a few friends and family members this International Coeliac Day, it's great to be able to share a beer at all!
